    Personal Life

    Growing up with the Colts

However, his childhood wasn’t always sunshine and roses. His father, known for his volatile personality, could be both generous and demanding. Additionally, Irsay faced tragedy at a young age when his sister Roberta died in a car accident in 1971 and his brother Thomas, who lived with a severe mental disability, passed away in 1999.

Education and athletic pursuits: Irsay attended Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Illinois, a suburb just north of Chicago, followed by Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. He then went on to study broadcast journalism at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. While he initially enrolled with the intention of playing football, an ankle injury ended his playing career prematurely. Instead, he worked in the Colts’ front office during his summers in college.

    Learning from his father:

From an early age, Irsay witnessed firsthand his father’s business acumen and competitive spirit. Robert Irsay was a shrewd businessman who built his empire through hard work and savvy deals. He also had a reputation for being ruthless and demanding. While Jim admired his father’s success, he also learned from his mistakes and vowed to run the Colts differently.
