In the approaching parliamentary primaries, Bantama residents in the Ashanti region have overwhelmingly vowed to support Member of Parliament (MP) Francis Asenso-Boakye.

These locals have voiced their confidence in the lawmaker and praised Asenso-Boakye, who serves as both the minister of housing and works, for his performance since taking office as an MP in 2020.

This comes after the MP for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong recently has accused the Bantama MP of corruption and even threatened to drop more revelations should they re-elect him again.

He urged party delegates in the Bantama constituency to abstain from voting for Asenso-Boakye on the grounds that he is conceited and dishonest in every way.

However, videos that are going around show the delegates thanking Asenso-Boakye for his contributions to security, education, and infrastructure development.

“If we were to vote in development, then it is Asenso-Boakye that we need to vote for because he has done so well for us. So if you say you want to vote against him, what are you going to expect from the other person,” one Puncho said.

Another resident also said, “Asenso-Boakye has been magnificent in the discharge of his duties, and we shouldn’t focus on money for electing anyone against him. So I want to plead with the NPP delegates to vote for him. So he can continue the good works he is doing.”

One Sarah, a resident in Bantama also said, “…In my view Asenso should be allowed to go again so I want to advise the delegates not to follow money and vote against him. That will be detrimental to the development of the constituency.”

On Saturday, January 27, the NPP is scheduled to hold parliamentary primaries that will encompass about 110 constituencies, including Bantama.

Ralph Agyapong, the brother of Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, is a rival to Mr. Asenso-Boakye.

Residents of the constituency have stated their resolve to support Asenso-Boakye as their preferred candidate in spite of the competitive field.
