President Akufo-Addo has received advice from Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Abura Asebu-Kwamakese constituency in 2024, to focus on improving the economy instead of waiting for praise from his political rival.
This comes after President Akufo-Addo stated that he had not received a congrats from John Dramani Mahama three years after the 2020 election victory.
However, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu contends that the President has disregarded his mandate and that congratulations are therefore unnecessary.
“We have a situation where almost every sector in Ghana is suffering and it has ground to a halt. Government cannot meet basic commitments in education, health, infrastructure and almost every sector.
“These are the issues that Ghanaians expect President Akufo-Addo and his government to focus on. Why will he in this day and age, at this twilight of his tenure as President be demanding congratulations for elections that were held several years ago.
“Why would President Akufo-Addo expect to be congratulated when he clearly procured that victory through bloody means,” he stated on January 7, 2024, during an interview with JoyNews.
The President, according to the former Deputy Minister of Communications, is accused of recruiting people into the Ghana Armed Forces, which then allegedly shot and killed about ten Ghanaians whose only goal was to watch the election proceedings.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that the President has not yet informed the public of the steps being taken to bring justice to the families of the deceased.
“If you shed blood to win the election why would anybody congratulate you? Congratulations are reserved for those who play fairly, who play by the book and win fairly. President Akufo-Addo does not fall in that category,”
“So Ghanaians are not interested in this pursuit of vanity by President Akufo-Addo. He should focus on the important things that affect the lives of everybody in this country,” he stressed.
