The government of Ghana has released a press statement regarding the cancellation of ‘The Convention’ event that was organized by the New Africa Foundation at the Black Star Square on Sunday, January 7, 2024.
Recall, InsightNewsgh.com earlier on reported that the New Africa Foundation unexpectedly announced the cancellation of its much-anticipated convention, which was supposed to take place at Black Stars Square on January 7, in an official statement.
The event was arranged by the foundation, which had recently attracted a lot of attention, as part of its goal to develop fresh voices in politics.
In the official statement from the government, it said, “We write to revoke immediately the permission granted per our letter NO.OP/PH/02 dated 11th November, 2023, which approved your request to use the Black Star Square for the above event.”
It continued that, “This decision has been necessitated by an unforeseen State Event scheduled to take place at the venue.”
Meanwhile, the government has promised to refund the GHc10,000 paid the New Africa Foundation paid to use the Black Star Square for their event.
“Under the circumstance the amount of Ten thousand Ghana cedis (GHc10,00.00) paid by your office for the use the venue will be refunded.
“We regret any inconvenience this may cause,” part of the statement read.
Relatedly, many New Africa Foundation supporters and followers were devastated by the cancellation because they had been looking forward to the foundation’s vision of a transformative political agenda as well as the introduction of a new potential leader.
The foundation’s spokesperson apologized for the unanticipated events that resulted in the cancellation and reassured supporters that the decision was not made lightly.
