John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for 2024, has promised to lower electricity rates and provide tax breaks to companies that implement a 24-hour economic model.

Mahama wants to stimulate the economy by encouraging efficiency, productivity, and the development of a dynamic atmosphere.

Through time-of-use tariffs, he highlighted enhanced security, public safety, and affordable electricity along with tax incentives for businesses adopting the 24-hour policy.

Mahama said that the 24-hour economy will prosper because we will provide better security and public safety, which will require massive recruitment into the security services and private security operations. Mahama was delivering his New Year’s message to Ghanaians in Tamale, in the Savannah Region.

“My government will provide cheaper and more reliable electricity for those participating businesses based on a time-of-use tariff system.

He states that modern smart meters calibrated to charge a lower tariff per kilowatt hour for power consumed during off-peak hours will be advantageous to businesses that enroll in the 24-hour economy.

According to him, companies that follow the 24-hour economy policy will also receive additional tax breaks to lower operating costs and boost their competitiveness.

    In other news,

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the minister of education, is promoting a second term for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the grounds that the current administration has performed admirably in the fields of industry, education, and health.

Drawing attention to the government’s plans to overhaul the nation’s public education system and implement free second-cycle education, Dr. Yaw Adutwum urged Ghanaians to support the NPP in light of the party’s impressive record.

“My word to voters is that there is no constitutional provision that says you can’t do beyond eight. Our government has done well, come to education, we have free secondary education, free TVET, now the transformation of public schools and if you look at our track record in health, in industry, in every sector, we deserve another term. So what we are saying is that Ghanaians should vote for NPP under the leadership of the now-flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bamumia. So it is our hope that voters will look at what we have done and based on that, make a decision to keep NPP in power for the next 4 to 8 years and beyond.”
