The CEO of Ghana Outstanding Women Awards and mother of three, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum may have unofficially broken the Guinness World Record sing-a-thon, but at a point she wanted to give up.

It all started when Afua Asantewaa announced earlier this month that she going to attempt to sing for long hours to break the current record holder for the longest singing marathon by an individual.

The Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon was set by an Indian man by name, Sunil Maghmare in March 2012.

Her attempt to break the record was received by criticism from social media users and even the President of the GHAMBRO, Rex Omar fought her over verification of the choices of songs and her crack voice.

However, the determined media personality went ahead and began her official quest to break the record on Sunday, December 24, 2023 at 12:00am midnight.

After singing for nearly two days non-stop, Asantewaa’s team disclosed to the media after she concluded her sing-a-thon this morning that, she almost quit.

Her medical team led by Dr. Buckman and a psychologist had to speak to her and encourage her anytime she left she didn’t want to continue again.

According to her Psychologist, anytime Asantewaa felt like stopping, he would remind her of the main reason why she was doing this for.

They disclosed that all the team were willing to do everything possible for Afua Asantewaa to break the record, even though they didn’t have enough time to prepare for this record-breaking event.

Dr. Buckman also added that, Afua was fed well during her 20minutes break interval with food that would give her enough strength to continue.

Meanwhile, she was subject to several restrictions during the sing-a-thon, including the inability to repeat a song until after four hours, the prohibition against receiving visitors in her glass cage, and the restriction that she could only take a twenty-minute break after four hours of nonstop singing—but only a five-minute break after an hour.

Despite breaking a few rules, she persisted in finishing the task.

Afua Aduonum broke down in tears after finishing her mission because she never thought she would accomplish such a feat.

The support she received from Ghanaians, including the vice president, the IGP, celebrities from the music and film industries, etc., also overwhelmed her.
