Afua Asantewaa Aduonum of Ghana has officially concluded her sing-a-thon, which aimed to surpass the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual.
She completed 126 hours and 52 minutes, ending it at approximately 7a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2023.
Because of some of the unplanned breaks she took, there had been conflicting reports earlier about when she was going to stop if she truly wanted to break the world record.
It appears that the former is currently the case, although some members of her team suggested that she will end today, while others suggested that she will end on Saturday, December 31, 2023.
She broke the 105-hour record for the longest individual singing marathon in the Guinness Book of World Records at 9:10 a.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023.
An Indian singer named Sunil Waghmare set this record in March 2012 when he sang for 105 hours.
Today, December 29, 2023, marks the conclusion of Afua’s journey to surpass the aforementioned record, which began at midnight on December 24.
She planned to set a new Guinness World Record of 120hours, however, after her medical team led by Dr. Buckman examined her during her 20minutes break interval, her medical team advised that she ends her sing-a-thon for the sake of her own health. She gladly accepted and ended it.
Her sing-a-thon started on December 24, 2023, and run through to December 28, 2023, but it is currently on the sixth day of December 29.
The businesswoman sang only Ghanaian songs back-to-back at the sing-a-thon in the Akwaaba village, drawing support from a number of Ghanaians, including politicians and A-list musicians.
Ghanaian social media users who followed her online throughout the process also gave her a lot of support.
Afua Asantewaa has expressed her gratitude to Ghanaians for their unwavering support after finishing her Sing-A-Thon.
According to her, she kept asking which day it was only to be told by her team that today is Friday.
