As part of the events commemorating the end-of-year watch night services, the Ghana Police Service has pleaded with religious leaders and faith-based organizations to exercise caution when making predictions.
In a December 27, 2023, statement, the police asked the public to respect the laws that are in place prohibiting the dissemination of false information.
The law protects and demands respect for other people’s rights as well as the public interest, the police claim, even though it acknowledges people’s freedom to practice their faith.
“As the year comes to an end, the Ghana Police Service respectfully wishes to remind the general public, especially the religious community, of the law on the publication of false news and urges its continuous compliance.
“We are grateful to faith-based groups and individuals for their compliance with the law so far, particularly in communicating prophecies. While this has protected the rights and freedoms of those who are normally affected by these prophecies, it has also fostered a society free of needless panic, fear and alarm,” part of the statement read.
In a related news, Prophet Dr. Kofi Oduro recently voiced his skepticism about the custom of making prophecies that are centered around December 31st.
Prophet Oduro has broken with tradition on this day, declining to offer predictions for the coming year and casting doubt on the reliability and intent of such oracles.
Prophet Dr. Kofi Oduro made it plain during a discussion on UTV Showbiz Night that he does not follow the custom of giving prophecies that are directly related to December 31st.
He thinks that by deviating from the traditional practice of many religious leaders during the year-end season, he raises questions about the validity and significance of these kinds of prophecies.
He has publicly questioned whether these prophecies are actually inspired by God or if they are just irrelevant cultural and religious traditions.
He exhorts people to take responsibility for their lives, make wise choices, and develop a close, intimate relationship with their faith.
