    Ghanaian actor cum politician, John Dumelo has lauded some National Democratic Congress (NDC) affiliated candidates who took part in the district-level elections yesterday.

    Yesterday, Ghanaians nationwide went to polls to choose assembly and unit committee positions at the district-level organized by the Electoral Commission (EC).

    In the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, NDC affiliated candidates won 7 electoral areas out of 13 as revealed by John Dumelo who took to his X (formerly Twitter) page to share the news with his followers.

    According to him, since 2019, the New Patriotic Party has been dominating the most of the electoral areas in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency and in that year, the NDC boys managed only 4 areas as against NPP’s 9.

    However, the tables turned this time around and they swept 7 electoral areas while the NPP had 6, which is the highest number the NDC boys have ever had for the last 20years. Electoral areas like Legon, West land and Dzorwulu central were all captured by the NDC boys.

    Check his tweet below;

    Even though the district assembly elections is not partisan, the NDC affiliated candidates won 7 out of 13 electoral areas yesterday in Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency. In 2019 we only won 4. And Npp won 9. Now we have 7 and they have only 6. We won Legon, West land and Dzorwulu…

    The electoral competition featured 66,257 candidates total—18,755 assembly member candidates and 47,502 unit committee member candidates—as they compete for assembly and unit committee positions, with over 66,000 candidates.

    6,215 electoral areas covering 216 metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies saw these candidates compete.

    Relatedly, out of a total of 18,755 candidates who filed to contest the District Assembly Elections which took place yesterday, an alarming 17,320 of them are publicly known political party functionaries working for either the New Patriotic Party (NPP) or the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the electoral area level.

    A research study conducted by the Center for Decentralization Advocacy (CeDA), revealed that while 8,846 of the candidates are affiliated with the NPP, 8,474 of them are pro-NDC candidates.

    It said only 1,435 of the candidates are affiliated with other political parties or politically non-aligned.

    According to the studies, some of the candidates are Electoral Area Coordinators and Polling Station Executives of the New NPP while others are Branch and Ward Executives of the NDC.

    According to CeDA, the figures are from data compiled from 6,215 electoral areas across the country.
