The New Force Spokesperson, Shalimar Abbiusi re-arrested by Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) after the state prosecutors dropped charges against her in court.

Shalimar Abbiusi was expected to report to the police three times a week and after she was granted GH¢20,000 in bail last week Monday, December 11.

However, in a twist of events, a video sighted on JoyNews X (formerly Twitter) page, the New Force Spokesperson has been re-arrested again.

In the video, confusion erupted when the officers from the GIS attempted to take Ms. Abbiusi in a ready-car parked at the scene.

Family and Madina MP, Lawyer Francis Sosu, Counsel for Ms. Abbiusi engaged in a verbal argument with the officers from the GIS in an attempt to resist the arrest following her bail.

    Background

On Monday, December 4, the Belgian who lives in Ghana was taken into custody for allegedly obtaining a residency permit through the use of a forged document. Shalimar Abbiusi was placed under arrest while her immigration status within the nation was being looked into.

Her social media activity was discovered by the Immigration Service, especially her function as ‘The New Force’ spokesman.

The arrest happened as a result of an invitation from the Immigration Headquarters’ Head of the National Enforcement Section, who was trying to resolve issues with Abbiusi’s immigration status.

After some research, it was found that Abbiusi had flown into Ghana via the Kotoka International Airport on September 4, 2017, and had been visiting the country frequently until 2018, when she declared herself a student at the Ghana Christian University College and claimed residency.

Abbiusi had never been enrolled as a student, the college found after conducting a thorough investigation, and the paperwork she had provided to bolster her application for a residency permit turned out to be fake.

Abbiusi was brought before the court for remand into immigration custody and was charged with immigration offenses.

Social media buzzed with talk about her arrest. Certain Ghanaians harbor suspicions of malice, conjecturing that the government may be utilizing strategies to stifle the burgeoning political influence prior to its accumulation of strength.
