Two men have been detained by national security for defrauding people by using Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa‘s name while posing as fund-raisers for the victims of the Akosombo Dam spill.

The North Tongu Member of Parliament claims that he notified law enforcement after receiving information about the suspects’ whereabouts.

The lawmaker revealed the arrest of the suspects, Promise Ahorgah and Mawuli Kwaotse, stating that on January 9, 2024, an Accra High Court chaired by Her Ladyship Lydia Osei-Marfo ordered their ongoing detention.

“A good number of Ghanaians both home and abroad have reported to me about how these two deceived them through elaborate impersonation methods and collected hundreds of thousands of Ghana Cedis, which were not handed over to flood victims as the donors intended,” the MP revealed.

Considering the seriousness of the flood victims’ situation, he characterized the suspects’ actions as callous.

“It is sheer evil for heartless characters to take advantage of the trauma and devastation of fellow Ghanaians to defraud and exploit compassionate citizens who seek to offer empathetic assistance to their compatriots in distress,” he lamented.

I wish to commend the Ministry of National Security and the National Signals Bureau for their prompt response to my complaint by tracking and apprehending two unscrupulous individuals who corrupted my disaster fundraising flyers and duped many unsuspecting Ghanaians.
The two arrested suspects are Promise Ahorgah and Mawuli Kwaotse.

An Accra High Court presided by Her Ladyship Lydia Osei-Marfo today ordered their continuous detention.
The duo are to reappear in court on the 9th of January, 2024.

May I add that all those criminals out there scamming Ghanaians in my name through fake social media accounts and those promising protocol recruitments and other dubious opportunities at outrageous amounts should know that their days are numbered. We shall get them!
The general public is hereby cautioned to be extra vigilant.
