The LOC intends to brand Accra with the tournament’s logo and colors as part of its ongoing preparations for the 13th African Games. During a weekend media briefing at its Abelemkpe office, the LOC unveiled its branding strategy.

Mr. Reks Brobby, the Deputy COO of the LOC, clarified that the branding initiative will aid in increasing public awareness and drawing sponsors to the Games.

He remarked, “The LOC has embarked upon a vigorous semiotic campaign to increase visibility. We have already started branding Accra. Branding at the Kotoka International Airport is underway. The airport branding will alert our brothers in the Diaspora and Ghanaians abroad who usually visit the home of our preparedness to host the rest of Africa.”

Additionally, Mr. Reks Brobby listed a few of the major Accra sites that will bear the Games’ branding.

He declared: “We started from King Tackie Tawiah to Aburi, King Tackie Tawiah to Kasoa. We are doing King Tackie Tawiah to Osu High Street and King Tackie Tawiah to Teshie.”

Dan Kwaku Yeboah, the LOC’s Chairman of the Media Sub Committee, highlighted some of the media initiatives the LOC has already implemented while thanking the media for its assistance and collaboration.

“The LOC embarked on a media tour both in Accra and Kumasi and had very fruitful stakeholder engagements with the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG),” he said.

“We have a very functional website with multiple languages to meet the African Union’s requirement, as well as official social media pages of the LOC,” he added.

“Additionally, the LOC has introduced a Newsletter and we are also working on signing a memorandum of understanding with the various radio stations and online portals across the country as media partners,” Kwaku Yeboah said.

Dr. Kwaku Fosu-Asare, the LOC’s Executive Chairman, pleaded with the media to portray the Games favorably. He took the chance to express his gratitude to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Government for their unwavering commitment to making the African Games a success.

A few LOC members also took turns speaking to the media: Mr. Ernest Danso, the Chef du Mission for Team Ghana; Dr. Beatrice Dwumfour Williams, in charge of anti-doping; Mr. Halid Osman Ahmed, in charge of security; Dr. Kwame Baah Nuaku, in charge of marketing; and Madam Joyce Datsa, in charge of accommodations and logistics.

Dr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, the LOC’s chief operating officer, and Mr. Kwesi Mantey, a member of the LOC, also responded to some inquiries from the press.

Charles Osei Asibey, vice president of SWAG, Mr. Karl Tuffour, a sharp journalist, Mr. Maurice Quansah, a member of the LOC Media Sub Committee, and Rosalind Amoh, the master of ceremonies, were also present.
