In a candid revelation during her recent appearance on the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme, Baroness Michelle Mone admitted to standing to benefit from the controversial PPE contract between the Government and Medpro, a PPE firm. The Conservative peer and Ultimo bra tycoon faced intense scrutiny over her involvement in the “VIP lane” contracts, awarded during the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

Previously denying any links to the firm, Baroness Michelle Mone acknowledged making an “error” and misleading the public. The National Crime Agency (NCA) is currently investigating Medpro, which secured government contracts exceeding £200 million for the supply of personal protective equipment, a deal she recommended to ministers.
Baroness Michelle Mone revealed that she is a beneficiary of her husband Doug Barrowman’s financial trusts, holding around £60 million in profit from the PPE deal. However, she argued that they are being unfairly made “scapegoats” for the government’s broader PPE failures.
During the interview with Laura Kuenssberg, Baroness Michelle Mone confessed to making repeated untruthful statements about her involvement, stating, “I did make an error in saying to the press that I wasn’t involved.” She clarified that she did not intend to deceive anyone but expressed regret for not being transparent about her role.
The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has initiated breach of contract proceedings over the 2020 deal involving the supply of gowns by Medpro. Millions of these gowns, however, were never utilized by health services, leading to further controversy.

In a public fightback documented in a YouTube video, Baroness Mone and her husband asserted their innocence, claiming they have “done nothing wrong.” They believe they will be cleared of any wrongdoing despite the ongoing investigations. The film, part of their defense, is reported to have been funded by PPE Medpro.
Amid the unfolding scandal, Lady Mone, appointed as a peer by Lord David Cameron in 2015, contends that she is being used as a scapegoat by the government to deflect attention from its own shortcomings in managing the Covid crisis.
Despite claims by contributors in the documentary that they were unaware of its funding and focus, investigative journalist Mark Williams-Thomas, who presented and produced the film, vehemently denied any deception, stating that the allegations are unfounded and unfair.
