In a star-studded event at the La Palm Beach Royal Hotel in Accra yesterday, Ghanaian rapper Medikal hosted a concert named “Planning and Plotting” to promote his latest album of the same title. The concert boasted an impressive lineup, with notable artists like Shatta Wale, Asakaa Boys, Pappy Kojo, Kofi Kinaata, Wendy Shay, and other A-list performers gracing the stage.

While many blogs and fans celebrated the event as a success for Medikal, a different narrative emerged on social media. A Twitter user with the handle @the_marcoli_boy, known as Twilight, shared a photo capturing the crowd at the concert. The image suggested a surprisingly low turnout, leading to speculation that Medikal might have incurred financial losses.

The caption accompanying the photo from Twilight read, ”UPSA Hostel Rooms sef get crowd pass this💔 La Palm mpo nie, then the O2 Arena de3 unless Medikal fly some of we go make we go watch am hmm🙏🏾” (Translation: Even UPSA Hostel Rooms have more crowd than this💔 La Palm is nothing, if not for Medikal flying some of us, we wouldn’t attend).

This tweet sparked a series of reactions from users on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter. While some expressed surprise and amusement, others questioned the decision to charge for such an event, especially in challenging economic times.

User @Butrouspips commented, “Did u go? I Don’t know how Ghanaians find happiness in someone’s bad situation 🥹🥹,” highlighting the contrasting opinions surrounding the event.

User @Stanl3e_FBC humorously added, “Bro aanfa wai… do you know how far I am from the stage… p3 kakra 🤣🤣,” playfully suggesting that the distance from the stage was a significant factor in attendance decisions.

As the social media discussion unfolded, it became evident that the event generated mixed reactions, with some celebrating Medikal’s success and others questioning the turnout and financial viability of the concert.
