Ghanaian Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George has broken his silence on an old ‘pro – LGBTQI+’ which has resurfaced on X (formerly Twitter) where he emphasized that the nation has more pressing concerns such as water shortages, rising petrol prices, and other pertinent issues.
When questioned about the LGBTQI+ issue in the aforementioned video, Sam George expressed his concern about the amount of time that is wasted in the nation discussing gay issues. He claims that the Ghanaian constitution guarantees the rights of all people, regardless of their sexual orientation, and that those rights must be upheld at all costs.
In response to the video, some internet users characterized the lawmaker’s actions as hypocritical, while others thought that Sam George’s present position on the LGBTQI+ issue was influenced by contemporary advancements.
However, Sam George has come out to react to the old ‘pro – LGBTQI+ video and has cleared the misconception of the masses.
In a long write up on his X (formerly Twitter) page, the outspoken NDC MP accused NPP folks of being behind the agenda.
Explaining further, he pointed out that in 2015/16, the topic of LGBTQI+ right was not prevalent in Ghana, however, in recent years, the LGBTQI+ community wants their activities to be well known in the country, hence the need for him to take a stand and fight it.
In his own words, Sam George wrote, “I have seen a lot of NPP folks running around with a video from 2015/16 where I am speaking on the subject of homosexuality. I wonder if it is a lack of understanding, intentional mischief or both for anyone to say that I cannot hold my current views. In 2015/16, there was no advocacy office opened in Ghana, no one was seeking to groom our kids and certainly no one was making a case for their rights to be recognised in Ghana. Today, the onslaught is on and I have made my stance on the matter known, unapologetically. So what is the brouhaha? Are these NPP folks saying they think we should allow homosexuality in its current onslaught to go unchecked? I thought they said they support the Bill? Why are they so desperate to find something wrong somewhere? I would continue my advocacy with vigour and zest because I believe in the course I am sponsoring. We would #PassTheBill and fight trumu trumu. Nothing and no one would stand in our way. On GOD!”
