Luton’s captain, Tom Lockyer, passed out on the field, forcing the team to abandon their Premier League match against Bournemouth.

Halfway through the second half, both sets of players were substituted out as Tom Lockyer received medical attention.

The crowd on all four sides cheered as he was carried off on a stretcher after a few minutes.

The 29-year-old defender was later described as “alert and responsive” in reports from the field.

Tom Lockyer was taken to the hospital after collapsing during the play-off final victory over Coventry in May.

After undergoing heart surgery, he was cleared to resume playing in June.

Following confirmation that the match had been called off, players from Bournemouth and Luton returned to the field to cheer on the fans.

“The match between AFC Bournemouth and Luton Town FC has been abandoned due to a player medical incident,” the Premier League said in a statement.

Meanwhile, prayers and best wishes for speedy recovery from the football fraternity have been poured out to the player on X (formerly Twitter) following the tragic incident.

In other news, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has selected Thomas Partey, the deputy captain of the Black Stars, and Mohammed Kudus, the West Ham United player, as members of the best eleven of 2023.

Thomas Partey, despite his injury struggles, has been an important player for Arsenal and the Black Stars.

Mohammed Kudus, 23, had an outstanding year in the year under review for both the Ghana national team and his clubs, Ajax and West Ham United.

Along with Mohammed Kudus, the other players who made the CAF team of the year are Andre Onana, Achraf Hakimi, Sofyan Amrabat, and Sadio Mane.

Meanwhile, the 2023 African Player of the Year was awarded to Nigerian and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen at the Confederations of African Football (CAF) Football Awards in Marrakech.
