Francis Xavier Sosu, Shalimar Abbiusi’s attorney, claims it is illegal for the police to decide to hold her even after they granted her bail.

The Ghanaian Immigration Service detained Shallie Abbiusi on suspicion of bringing false documents into the nation.

Abbiusi was placed under arrest while her immigration status in the nation was being investigated.

Abbiusi’s social media activity caught the attention of the Immigration Service, especially since she was the face of “The New Force.”

The Immigration Headquarters’ Head of the National Enforcement Section invited Abbiusi to address issues regarding her immigration status, which led to her arrest.

According to reports, Abbiusi arrived in Ghana for the first time in September 2017 and returned frequently until 2018, when she declared herself a resident of Ghana while enrolled at Ghana Christian Service University College.

She had never attended the school, though, and the residency documents she presented were falsified, according to school records.

On Monday, December 11, 2023, Abbiusi appeared before the Kaneshie High Court, where he was charged and given bail. Even though the court granted her bail, investigators are adamant about keeping her.

However, Attorney Xavier Sosu told the media that since the court had granted her bail and her sureties had demonstrated their ability to post bail, investigators had no right to insist on maintaining her in custody.

He contends that it will be an insult to the court’s authority and a violation of the accused person’s human rights if they insist on keeping her.

“The bail has been granted, the sureties are around and have properly brought their ID cards and supplied same to the Registrar of the Court. The only thing left is for the investigator to inspect the homes of the sureties so that they will sign. What is happening now is that they want to go and keep her until whatever, very respectfully, that will be an abuse, it will violate her right to a fair trial, violate her freedom of movement. How do you treat a foreigner like that on your land? Ghanaians are also foreigners in another land so how we want to be treated elsewhere is the same way we want to treat others here.”

That will amount to contempt of court and we won’t accept that because that will be unlawful. That will be an affront to the decision of the court today. Unless someone is being arrested in which case they will have to let us know why she’s being rearrested. You can’t just go by arresting a person for no reasonable cause,” Lawyer Francis Xavier Sosu, counsel for Shalimar Abbiusi told the media.
