The New Force Spokesperson, Shalimar Abbiusi is expected to report to the police three times a week and has been granted GH¢20,000 in bail.
This follows a video that surfaced last week showing her parents sobbing, demanding her release, and accusing the government of kidnapping her.
On Monday, December 4, the Belgian who lives in Ghana was taken into custody for allegedly obtaining a residency permit through the use of a forged document. Shalimar Abbiusi was placed under arrest while her immigration status within the nation was being looked into.
Her social media activity was discovered by the Immigration Service, especially her function as ‘The New Force’ spokesman.
The arrest happened as a result of an invitation from the Immigration Headquarters’ Head of the National Enforcement Section, who was trying to resolve issues with Abbiusi’s immigration status.
After some research, it was found that Abbiusi had flown into Ghana via the Kotoka International Airport on September 4, 2017, and had been visiting the country frequently until 2018, when she declared herself a student at the Ghana Christian University College and claimed residency.
Abbiusi had never been enrolled as a student, the college found after conducting a thorough investigation, and the paperwork she had provided to bolster her application for a residency permit turned out to be fake.
Abbiusi has been brought before the court for remand into immigration custody and is currently being charged with immigration offenses.
Social media is buzzing with talk about her arrest. Certain Ghanaians harbor suspicions of malice, conjecturing that the government may be utilizing strategies to stifle the burgeoning political influence prior to its accumulation of strength.
Meanwhile, throngs of Ghanaians holding placards flocked to the Keneshie District Court to welcome The New Force Spokesperson, the political movement’s arrested spokesperson, following her release on bond.
