In a surprising revelation, Mr. Akwasi Nti, former Constituency Chairman of Fomena in the Ashanti Region, has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of orchestrating the removal of certain New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament (MPs) through the influence of Chairman Wontumi.
The alleged motive behind these removals was the MPs’ support for the founder of the Movement for Change, Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen.
Speaking candidly on Kumasi-based Pure FM, Mr. Nti, former Constituency Chairman, disclosed that the decision to remove MPs, including Fomena’s own, was initiated by Chairman Wontumi, who claimed that President Akufo-Addo had directed the removal of MPs aligned with Alan Kyerematen.
This revelation comes in response to the NPP’s decision not to categorize Fomena constituency as an orphan constituency, despite the party’s leadership acknowledging it as such.
According to Mr. Nti, President Akufo-Addo’s alleged plan extended beyond Fomena, including prominent figures like the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Lawyer K.T Hammond, Trade and Industry Minister, and MP for Odotobri Constituency, Mr. Emmanuel Akwasi Gyamfi, as well as the late Philip Basoah of Kumawu constituency.
The former Constituency Chairman claimed that Chairman Wontumi informed them of the President’s desire for these MPs to be removed from Parliament.
Mr. Nti further asserted that President Akufo-Addo’s strategy was part of a broader plan to pave the way for the election of Vice President Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer.

He emphasized that Chairman Wontumi had conveyed these details to him, suggesting that the removal of MPs supportive of Alan Kyerematen was intricately linked to internal party dynamics and the upcoming flagbearer election.
This revelation adds a new layer of complexity to the political landscape, shedding light on alleged behind-the-scenes maneuvers within the NPP leadership. As the party navigates these internal challenges, it remains to be seen how these claims will impact the broader political discourse in Ghana.
