In a poignant tale of legal entanglement, a 67-year-old Ghanaian residing in Europe, identified as Mr. Kofi, shares the heart-wrenching saga of his relentless fight to retain ownership of his house in Ghana. The once-cherished property has become the epicenter of a perplexing legal dispute, leaving Mr. Kofi and his wife in a state of profound distress.

In an exclusive interview with Kofi TV, 67-year-old Ghanaian Mr. Kofi narrated the harrowing events that led to the unsettling situation. The unfortunate ordeal began when the couple entrusted their home to a friend for management, allowing him to lease it to tenants. However, the arrangement took a nightmarish turn when the tenant defaulted on payments, leaving Mr. Kofi and his wife grappling with an unforeseen crisis.

“We left our house here to our friend to rent it out. The tenant used to pay us yearly, but after three years, he stopped paying,” Mr. Kofi explained. Their efforts to collect arrears proved challenging, leading to the eviction of the non-compliant tenant. Little did they know that this was only the beginning of their tribulations.

Upon returning to Ghana, the couple discovered that their property had been auctioned due to the tenant’s unpaid loan. Shockingly, the house, registered in the tenant’s name, was sold off by a financial institution following a court judgment. Mr. Kofi expressed disbelief at the turn of events, questioning how the bank had managed to lay claim to a property not registered in their records.

“We found out from the court that the tenant had gone for a loan from a bank, and because he defaulted in payment, the bank came for our house. The strange thing is that the house was not even registered in the bank details, so I’m surprised how they managed to come for our house,” he lamented.

Undeterred by this setback, Mr. Kofi and his wife have filed an appeal in the hopes of reversing the court’s decision and reclaiming their rightful ownership of the house. As they navigate the complexities of the legal system, the couple remains resolute in their pursuit of justice, yearning to restore the sense of security that their home once provided.

This heartbreaking story serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by expatriates in safeguarding their properties from unforeseen legal complexities, shedding light on the vulnerability of homeowners even from a distance.
