Bright Simons and Franklin Cudjoe have been challenged by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s economic advisor and spokeswoman, Dr. Gideon Boako, to retract some false remarks they made about Vice President Bawumia’s remarks about Ghana’s credit scoring system.

Speaking at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) 57th graduation last week, Vice President Bawumia praised the Ghana card’s many benefits, including its ability to help the nation build a strong credit scoring system that will allow it to track and uniquely identify every borrower.

However, the Vice President of the think tank IMANI Africa sharply disputed the veracity of the information released by the Vice President.

Other IMANI leaders, such as President Franklin Cudjoe, supported this.

The two cited XDSDATA Ghana Limited, a credit bureau, claiming that the organization already had the system the vice president was referring to in place.

A press release from XDSData Ghana Limited, a well-known credit bureau in Ghana, has made it clear that the company has not created individual credit scores for Ghanaians.

In light of this, Dr. Gideon Boako urged the two in a different post on Facebook and Twitter to accept responsibility for their actions and extend an apology to the large number of people that their comments on Facebook and Twitter reached.

Ghana Card penetration, a potential unique identifier, is currently at 35%, according to XDSData Managing Director George K. Ahiafor, based on tracking from the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

Mr. Ahiafor believes that when Ghana Card penetration hits 90%, which should happen by the end of 2024, XDSData will begin providing individual credit scores.
