The Black Queens head coach Nora Hauptle broke down in tears after securing Ghana a place in 2024 Women’s AFCON.
Nora Hauptle couldn’t back her tears of joy while congratulating her players with a handshake after the game.
After defeating Namibia 3-2 overall, Ghana secured their spot in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
This was true even though the Black Queens fell short on Tuesday afternoon in Pretoria, losing 1-0 in the second leg of the championship round qualifiers.
Even so, Nora Hauptle’s team prevailed overall after winning the first leg 3-1 at home on Friday.
Ghana’s start to the match was unsteady as they gave up a goal in the 22nd minute as a result of some subpar back-row defense.
But as the game progressed, the Black Queens regained possession and started to dominate it in the opposing half.
They took a while to settle in, but in the second half they did, and they created a flurry of opportunities but failed to convert any of them.
Magnificent chances were missed by Doris Boaduwaa, Stella Nyamekye, and Vivian Konadu. In the second half, substitute Gifty Assifuah also missed a few.
Namibia was unable to increase their score to reverse the outcome of the first leg because they produced very little in the second half.
Since Hauptle took over in February, this is the first game the Black Queens have lost under her leadership—1-0.
More significantly, though, Ghana has secured a spot in the AFCON, which will be held in Morocco next year.
