Corey Perry is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who currently plays for the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League (NHL). He is known for his goal-scoring ability and an abrasive playing style with an ability to get under his opponent’s skin; the former earned him the affectionate nickname “Scorey Perry”, the latter the less affectionate “the Worm”.
Perry was also born in Haileybury, Ontario, on May 16, 1985. He began playing hockey at a young age and also quickly developed a passion for the sport. He played his minor hockey for the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Perry was drafted 28th overall by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
Perry made his NHL debut with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in 2005. He quickly established himself as a top goal-scorer, also winning the Maurice Richard Trophy as the NHL’s leading goal-scorer in 2010 and 2011. Perry also won the Hart Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s Most Valuable Player in 2011.
Perry also helped the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim win the Stanley Cup in 2007. He also won the Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020.
Perry is also a two-time Olympian, having won gold with Canada in 2016 and silver in 2014.
