Following a rumored cleanup exercise on Thursday, November 23, 2023, some National Democratic Congress (NDC) members were filmed on viral videos brandishing machetes around the party flagbearer John Mahama’s office complex. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has denounced these members’ actions.
On November 23, 2023, the NDC’s youth wings started a cleanup project around Mahama’s office.
This occurs on the same day that the ‘Fixing the Country Movement’ is scheduled to take over Mahama’s office due to allegations of corruption involving Airbus.
The “Fixing the Country Movement” declared that they would picket Mahama’s office if they felt that the Airbus corruption investigations were not moving forward.
The Movement urged the appropriate parties to act right away, deeming any casual attitude toward the Airbus corruption scandal intolerable.
Speaking at the farewell event for the retiring Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Reverend Professor Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, President Akufo-Addo declared that the NDC faithful’s actions would not be tolerated prior to, during, or following the general elections scheduled for December 20, 2024.
He gave Ghanaians the assurance that his administration would work nonstop to restore the economy to its pre-COVID-19 state.
President Nana Akufo-Addo felt confident that he would keep his word before leaving government.
In expressing his disapproval of the NDC youth’s behavior, Nana Addo made it clear that such acts will not be tolerated in the run-up to, during, or following the December 2024 presidential and legislative elections.
“It is my honest hope that the machetes and weapons brandished last week at the residence of the NDC’s presidential candidate, the former president John Mahama are not signs of things to come in the run-up of the 2024 elections elections.
“If it is, I can assure them that they will find no success with them. I want to state for the record that under my watch, no person or group of persons no matter their political colouration will destabilise our country nor destroy the peace that all of us are enjoying. It will not happen,” he added.
