Stephen Yakubu, the Upper East Regional Minister, has stated that his remarks regarding former President John Mahama’s suggested 24-hour economy policy are correct.

According to Mr. Stephen Yakubu, cautioning his people is essential to prevent them from being duped by those who support the policy.

“My position was in response to a statement the Nabdam MP made on the policy. I had to caution my people so they are not swayed away. It was a cautionary message,” he stated.

In a video, the Upper East Regional Minister questioned the policy’s viability, claiming it would strip farmers of their marital responsibilities.

“My brothers, when we work in our farms and we are tired, we have to sleep with our wives, we have to be with our wives. In the night, you want us to be farming and then people will come and take our wives away? No! We have to be careful with this 24-hour thing,” he said.

Many people have taken offense at his comment, particularly Builsa South MP Clement Apaak, who called it “purposeful ignorance.”

But Mr. Stephen Yakubu insisted that everything was in order during an interview on Adom FM’s morning program Dwaso Nsem.

“We northerners pay huge bride price, give out cows and other items so we love our wives dearly. So how can we not make love to them? If we are to farm at night, it will only give other men the chance to come and be with our wives,” he insisted.

Relatedly, Member of Parliament for SEKONDI Constituency, Andrew Egyapa Mercer has defended the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia against public criticisms over the current economic crisis in the Ghana.

Speaking in a panel discussion on TV3 New Day show, Mr. Egyapa Mercer claimed that every country in this world is suffering economically, so Ghana’s economic crisis is no different.

According to the MP, Ghanaians should rather blame President Nana Akufo-Addo and not attribute it to Dr. Bawumia for Ghana economic crisis. He went on to add that several factors have caused Ghana to be where it is today.
