Member of Parliament for SEKONDI Constituency, Andrew Egyapa Mercer has defended the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia against public criticisms over the current economic crisis in the Ghana.

Speaking in a panel discussion on TV3 New Day show, Mr. Egyapa Mercer claimed that every country in this world is suffering economically, so Ghana’s economic crisis is no different.

According to the MP, Ghanaians should rather blame President Nana Akufo-Addo and not attribute it to Dr. Bawumia for Ghana economic crisis. He went on to add that several factors have caused Ghana to be where it is today.

NPP made a mistake in choosing Dr. Bawumia as the presidential candidate - Nana Ohene Ntow

“Almost every economy in this world is suffering today, so why do we attribute the problems in Ghana to Vice President Dr. Bawumia? Several factors have caused to be where we are today as matter of fact,” the NPP MP said.

Mr. Egyapa Mercer also criticized former president John Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy which he intends to implement if he’s voted into power in 2024 to transform the economy.

Relatedly, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, the Member of Parliament representing Builsa South, has questioned the Upper East Regional Minister’s grasp of a 24-hour economy.

At a function in his region, Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu expressed concern that people would not have time to sleep with their wives at night if a 24-hour economy was implemented, as suggested by opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Mahama.

For example, Mr. Yakubu stated that farmers would find it practically difficult to “sleep with their wives” if they worked through the night, something he strongly opposed.

In a social media post, the MP for Builsa North expressed dissatisfaction with Mr. Yakubu’s stance and comprehension of the 24-hour economy, asking, “What has a 24-hour economy got to do with farming at night and sleeping or not sleeping with wives at night? couples manage to do the needful even in war zones.”
