National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer and former president, John Dramini Mahama has pledged that if voted into power in 2024, things won’t be same under his previous government.

Speaking at a durbar in the Ahafo Region during his ‘Building Ghana Tour,’ Mahama asserted that his time, his government is going to be business as usual. According to him, he won’t make promises he can’t fulfill.

Mahama stressed that he won’t tolerate arrogance under his next NDC government. He added that he won’t allow his appointees lord their position over the people they are called to serve.

“One of the things we don’t want to see in the next NDC government is arrogance. The people are suffering and so you must be modest. We don’t want to see people driving Rose Royce and things when people can not get food to eat,” Mahama said.

In addition, the NDC flagbearer said his appointees must be truthful and accountable to the people before they will allowed to lead.

Relatedly, the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration has come under fire  John Mahama for cracking down on dissent.

He claimed that criticism of Ghanaians and free speech have been suppressed by the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

He stressed the importance of preserving democracy in the nation while addressing a durbar of students in the Ahafo Region.

He emphasized further that many Ghanaians are afraid to speak out about wrongdoings and happenings in their country because of the autocratic atmosphere.

“… And so, it instituted a culture of fear amongst public servants,” he added.

The former president added that government employees nationwide are afraid of being arrested or fired from their positions, so they are unable to voice their dissatisfaction about the poor quality of their work.
