James Cleverly is a British politician who has served as Secretary of State for Europe and North America since 2021. He is a member of the Conservative Party and has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Braintree since 2018.
Cleverly was born in London in 1969 and studied history at the University of Cambridge. He worked as a journalist and broadcaster before joining the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 2005. He also served in a number of diplomatic roles, including as Head of the Middle East and North Africa Department.
Cleverly was also elected MP for Braintree in 2018 and was appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Local Government in the same year. In 2019, he was aslo promoted to Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa. In 2021, he was appointed Secretary of State for Europe and North America.
