Goasohene, Nana Kwasi Bosompra, broke down in tears as she bemoaned the government’s desertion by the ruling New Patriotic Party to former President Mahama, the National Democratic Congress’s presidential candidate.
Despite the fact that the Ahafo Region is a stronghold of the NPP, Goasohene bemoaned the poor quality of the roads and the lack of development there. He claims that the circumstances have made him sick and that the local gods have abandoned him.
“Because of the dusty nature of the road, I have now developed a health condition. What is our crime? Ahafo Region, what have we done wrong?” the tearful Goaso chief questioned while shedding tears.
When Mahama and the NDC team were in the Ahafo Region and went to Nana Bosompra’s palace as part of their “Building Ghana Tour,” Goasohene confided in them about his frustrations.
He lamented the way the Akufo-Addo-led NPP government had halted and abandoned the construction of certain roads that had been initiated by the former Mahama-led NDC administration.
“The road in front of the palace was awarded to Kofi Job by the NDC and he mobilized his equipment to the site. But all contractors on Ahafo Roads were stopped immediately after the Nana Akufo-Addo government took over,” he narrated.
Civil work on the completed but unpaved Bediako to Kasapii road was allegedly stopped by the NPP administration after they came to power. The government’s choice had an impact on the contractor for the Gambia Number One to Dormaa route as well.
All of the roadwork completed prior to the NPP taking office, according to Nana Bosompra, was for naught.
“After many years of auditing, they were made to resume work. But all the work they have gone down the drain,” he lamented.
The NDC holds two of the six parliamentary seats in the Ahafo Region, while the NPP holds the other four. Nana Bosompra asserts, however, that despite the Ahafo Region’s continuous support for the New Patriotic Party, the region’s development needs have not received any priority.
