The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has clarified their decision after the party expelled 4 Butterflies’ ‘Big Boys’ for supporting an independent candidate, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a former fliagbearer hopeful.

Four prominent individuals have had their membership in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) revoked due to their endorsement of Alan Kojo Kyeremanten.

Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Nana Ohene Ntow, Hopeson Adorye, and Boniface Abubakar Saddique are no longer party members for their support of the former Trade and Industry Minister, according to a press release from the party.

This endorsement is cited in the statement, which is signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, as a violation of the party’s constitution, specifically Articles 3(5) (A)(4) and 3(9)(1).

These articles place a strong emphasis on the duty of party members to follow and publicly support decisions.

The press release emphasizes that the party is aware of the four people’s actions and that they continue to be associated with the NPP in spite of their violations of the party’s constitution.

It clarifies at the end that the four members have not been sacked but their membership has been revoked because their actions have violated the party’s principles.

Relatedly, Nana Ohene Ntow, the former general secretary of the NPP, has declared that he is not shocked nor concerned about being kicked out of the organization.

He claims that because he backed the party’s former flagbearer candidate, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, in his independent presidential bid, this decision was necessary and appropriate under the party’s constitution.

“Well, I feel it is not surprising and neither am I worried in any way because I have been party general secretary before and I know what the party’s constitution says.”

“I have personally not received any letter from anyone, it is a press release that put out there. A radio station called me and that is how I came to know about it,” Nana Ohene Ntow said during an interview on UTV on November 20, 2023.
