Speaking about the status of the Ghanaian economy, John Dramani Mahama emphasized the importance of voters casting ballots for change in 2024.

On Sunday, November 19, 2023, the former president spoke to members of the Apostolic Continuation Church at Techiman while on his “Building Ghana Tour” through the Bono East Region.

He acknowledged that many people were suffering from unimaginable hardship, but he insisted that in order to alter the course of the economy after 2024, voters must choose a leader.

“We all remember that some time back, some people came to us with lofty promises. Mostly, all these promises are for the votes of electorates. Not all that glitters is gold,” he said.
“Let us learn from our mistakes and vote wisely. I’m aware of what every Ghanaian is going through. The hardship is unbearable,” he added in Twi.

He stated that voters can bring about change through the electoral process, but he also recognized that God has the final say in who should lead and who he will designate.

“God will choose for us a leader who will deliver the country and set us on a path of prosperity,” he added.

Mahama will face Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the pivotal 2024 elections. Bawumia was just chosen as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer.

Relatedly, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been congratulated by the Coalition of Angry Menzgold Customers on his election as the ruling New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate.

The Menzgold customers, who are still demanding the payment of their frozen investments, have stated in a statement signed by coalition executives and convener Fred Forson that they anticipate the election of Bawumia as the NPP flagbearer will benefit the majority of Ghanaians.

“As CACM, it is our expectation that next election will evolve ideas and messaging that will make provision for the welfare of all Ghanaians irrespective of socio-political background and that this democracy will fulfil the dreams of our fore bearers,” the statement read in part.
