Bofoakwa Tano FC has been temporarily prohibited from using Sunyani Coronation Park as their home venue by the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA). This ban is effective immediately.
This decision was made in response to the unfortunate events that transpired following Bofoakwa Tano FC and Nsoatreman FC‘s Matchday 11 match on November 19, 2023.
The directive from the Executive Council is in accordance with GFA Premier League Regulations Article 14(2), which gives the GFA the authority to close any league center in the event that clubs, officials, or spectators cannot be assured of their safety.
In accordance with Article 14(3) of the Premier League Regulations, the Competitions Department has been directed to choose a different location for Bofoakwa Tano FC’s upcoming home games.
It is important to remember that this directive does not affect the current case that is being reviewed by the Disciplinary Committee, which is responsible for following the applicable regulations in reviewing the matter.
The Premier League and GFA Safety and Security Regulations were flagrantly violated during the match, and the GFA vehemently denounced the behavior of the Bofoakwa Tano FC supporters.
The Disciplinary Committee is anticipated to expedite proceedings on this matter, and the GFA Prosecutors will review video evidence and match reports to formulate appropriate charges as soon as possible.
In addition, the GFA required that Bofoakwa Tano FC work immediately with the Regional Police to find those responsible for the away team attack and the wrongful hostage-taking of match officials.
This is a necessary step that complies with the clubs’ pledge to the Inspector General of Police during their interactions with the Ghana Police Service.
Until the matter is settled, the Competitions Department has been directed to choose locations for Bofoakwa Tano FC’s next home games while accounting for the away teams’ travel distance.
The GFA emphasizes how crucial it is that all clubs closely abide by the GFA Disciplinary Code and the Safety & Security Regulations.
The GFA issued a strong warning, emphasizing that any kind of intimidation or assault directed towards players, team officials, match officials, or any other parties involved will be handled swiftly and forcefully. All GFA members are sternly cautioned by this directive to protect the fairness and security of the game, especially clubs.
