According to the True Drivers Union, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia have let Ghanaians down by breaking their enormously lofty promises.
Yaw Berimah, the Union’s public relations officer, said that Ghanaians had little hope from the government’s 2024 budget statement and economic policy, and that the budget presented by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta was inadequate.
Referred to as the “Yeeko Fie Budget,” he declared that the one read by Ken Ofori-Atta is the final one that the NPP government will present to Ghanaians.
In an interview with Rainbow Radio in Accra, he claimed that although Nana Addo and Dr. Bawumia had promised Ghanaians heaven, they had instead given them hell.
He asserts that Ghanaians are going through immense suffering and believes the NPP, led by Nana Addo and Dr. Bawumia, engaged in propaganda before the 2016 elections.
He outlined the various tax breaks available to protect the interests of businesses and other parties involved in the vehicle importation value chain. Of particular note was the tax on imported electric vehicles, which are now eligible for an eight-year import duty waiver, which was dubbed a “robbing Peter to pay Paul” policy by Ken Ofori-Atta.
Yaw Berimah claimed that the initiative was created so that government cronies, friends, and family could profit from it. He bemoaned the high cost of electric car parts and the fact that government cronies now control the deal.
He urged the government to report to the people of Ghana what the 2022 “Asempa budget” accomplished. The difficulties facing Ghanaians, he continued, have gotten worse.
“As drivers, we will continue to criticise this inept government…We will be as critical of this government as we were of Mahama. They promised heaven and brought damnation. President Akufo-Addo and his vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, are both bad. They are incompetent.
“We would not have wasted our time, resources, and energy supporting them if we had known that the change President Akufo-Addo promised was this disaster of leadership. We are displeased with their performance. They have failed Ghanaians and must be removed.
“They vowed to industrialise the country, but instead overtaxed Ghanaians. If this is the change they promised, we regret to Ghanaians for pushing to bring in this underperforming government,” he stated.
