A case that Cruise People Ltd. filed against Ghanaian musician Black Sherif was dismissed by an Accra High Court.

The artist was supposed to perform at an event called “Afro Cruise Jam” in Athens, Greece, in August 2023, but the concert was canceled because the artist was accused of breaking an agreement.

Travel People asked Black Sherif for compensation, claiming that the cancellation caused them to suffer financial losses.

Black Sherif’s legal team responded by claiming that the performance contract required that any court proceedings take place in the United Kingdom, so the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case.

Black Sherif’s attorneys prevailed in court, despite Cruise People’s insistence that the court had jurisdiction because both parties were Ghanaians conducting business in Ghana. Judge Mariama Sammo presided over the court.

The court underlined that the party hiring the artist did not provide any addresses located in Ghana. The court was forced to dismiss the case against the well-known musician as a result.

The Ghanaian musician is the subject of a contractual dispute between Cruise People Limited and the latter, which filed a lawsuit against the former several months ago.

He was supposed to perform at the highly anticipated Afro Cruise Jam concert in Greece, but the lawsuit, filed at the High Court, claimed that he broke his end of the agreement.

Cruise People Limited stated that they had paid half of his $20,000 booking fee to secure his services for the cruise event.

They expected him to record a video certifying his attendance at the event as part of the agreement.

The artist allegedly failed to fulfill this part of the contract, which led to the cancellation of the booking and a substantial loss of $18,000 from the cruise ship cabin reservations.

Since his attendance was thought to be crucial to drawing attendees, the organizers claimed that his failure to confirm his participation put the event at risk as a whole.

Cruise People Limited has filed a lawsuit to address what they believe to be a serious breach of the contract.

The lawsuit demands $18,000 in damages for the cancelled cabin reservations in addition to the return of the $20,000 booking fee.

In addition, the business is asking for interest on the $20,000 from April 18, 2023, to the day of the last payment. Additionally, Cruise People Limited is suing for $50,000 in lost earnings that they claim were caused by the purported contract violation.
