Due to an inciting broadcast that Onua radio/TV aired last week, the National Media Commission (NMC) has sent Captain Smart and the station a final warning.
On Tuesday, November 14, 2023, the NMC Executive Secretary, George Sarpong, signed a statement highlighting the station’s unsafe and unprofessional behavior.
The statement addressed how Captain Smart called the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and other Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) commanders “beasts,” in a clear insult to them.
Furthermore, Captain Smart asserted that the officers embezzled funds intended for soldiers participating in peacekeeping missions, but he did not present any proof to back up his claims.
The station’s continued promotion of violence against the state in spite of prior warnings worried the NMC.
Onua Radio/TV was notified by the NMC in December 2022 about their use of the station to spread violent content and their management’s failure to take appropriate action.
The NMC’s statement emphasized how the station must take action to stop engaging in such risky behavior. They also demanded that the station’s ability to comply with regulations be strengthened. The NMC further demanded that Onua Radio/TV apologize to the CDS and his commanders for the offensive remarks that were made.
They also demanded that the station issue an apology to the Ghanaian people for using derogatory language.
Before November 19, 2023, Onua Radio/TV is expected by the NMC to take the suggested actions and submit documentation proving their compliance. If you don’t, the Commission might take additional action.
Meanwhile, in a move which seems to be a last resort to collect its unpaid arrears for work done for the Government of Ghana, reputable ICT consulting firm, West Blue Ghana, has decided to test the laws of the country by dragging the Ghana Revenue Authority(GRA) and the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice to court.
West Blue, yesterday Wednesday November 14, filled a writ at an Accra High Court against the two, praying the courts to order for the immediate payment of its overdue arrears which amounts to GHC28 million.
