Leon Draisaitl was born on October 27, 1995, in Cologne, Germany to Peter and Sandra Draisaitl. His father, Peter Draisaitl, is a former ice hockey player who played in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) for 17 seasons. Sandra Draisaitl is a dentist. Leon has one younger sister, Paulina Draisaitl, who is a model and social media influencer.
Draisaitl also began playing ice hockey at a young age. He was quickly identified as a talented player and played for a number of youth hockey teams in Germany. He also made his professional debut with the Adler Mannheim of the DEL in 2012 at the age of 16. In his rookie season with Adler Mannheim, Draisaitl recorded 29 points in 54 games. He was also named the DEL Rookie of the Year and was also selected to the DEL All-Star Game.
Draisaitl’s impressive rookie season caught the attention of NHL scouts, and he was also drafted third overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. He also made his NHL debut in the 2014-15 season and quickly established himself as one of the most promising young players in the league.
