Biography Leon Draisaitl
Leon Draisaitl is a German professional ice hockey player who currently plays as a center for the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted third overall by the Oilers in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Draisaitl has won two Art Ross Trophies as the NHL’s leading scorer, in 2019 and 2020, and the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league’s most valuable player in 2020. He has also helped lead the Oilers to the playoffs in four consecutive seasons.
Born in Cologne, Germany, Draisaitl began playing ice hockey at a young age. He played for a number of youth hockey teams in Germany before making his professional debut with the Adler Mannheim of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) in 2012. In his rookie season with Adler Mannheim, Draisaitl recorded 29 points in 54 games. He was named the DEL Rookie of the Year and was also selected to the DEL All-Star Game.

Draisaitl’s impressive rookie season caught the attention of NHL scouts, and he was drafted third overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Draisaitl had an even better season in 2018-19, recording 110 points in 82 games. He won the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL’s leading scorer and was also a finalist for the Hart Memorial Trophy.
In the 2019-20 season, Draisaitl set a new Oilers franchise record with 128 points in 71 games. He won his second Art Ross Trophy and was also awarded the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league’s most valuable player.
