Henrik Lundqvist was born on March 2, 1982, in Åre, Sweden. He is the son of Torgny Lundqvist, a salesman, and also Inger Lundqvist, a nurse. He has one sister, Gabriella Lundqvist. Lundqvist also began playing ice hockey at a young age and was quickly identified as a talented goaltender. He also made his professional debut in 2000 with Frölunda HC of the Swedish Elite League.
In 2005, Lundqvist was also drafted by the New York Rangers in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut in 2005-06 and quickly established himself as one of the best goaltenders in the league. He won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s best goaltender in 2012 and was also a finalist for the award on four other occasions. Lundqvist also helped lead the Rangers to the Stanley Cup Final in 2014.
In addition to his success in the NHL, Lundqvist has also represented Sweden in international competition. He won the gold medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics and also the silver medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics. He also won the bronze medal at the 2009 IIHF World Championship.
