Biography
Henrik Lundqvist was born on March 2, 1982, in Åre, Sweden. He is the son of Torgny Lundqvist, a salesman, and Inger Lundqvist, a nurse. He has one sister, Gabriella Lundqvist. Lundqvist began playing ice hockey at a young age and was quickly identified as a talented goaltender. He played for a number of youth hockey teams in Sweden before making his professional debut with Frölunda HC of the Swedish Elite League in 2000.
In 2005, Lundqvist was drafted by the New York Rangers in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft. He also made his NHL debut in 2005-06 and quickly established himself as one of the best goaltenders in the league. He won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s best goaltender in 2012 and was a finalist for the award on four other occasions. Lundqvist also helped lead the Rangers to the Stanley Cup Final in 2014.
