Bio: David Cameron’s Biography
David William Donald Cameron was born on October 9, 1966, in London, England. He is the eldest son of Ian Donald Cameron, a stockbroker, and Mary Fleur Mount, a justice of the peace. He has three younger siblings: Alexander, Rachel, and Emily.
Cameron was educated at Eton College, one of the most prestigious schools in the United Kingdom. He then went on to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Brasenose College, Oxford. After graduating from Oxford in 1988, Cameron also worked as a special adviser to Norman Lamont, the Chancellor of the Exchequer. He then moved to the private sector, working as director of corporate affairs at Carlton Communications, a media company.
Life
In 1997, Cameron was elected to Parliament as the Conservative MP for Witney. He quickly rose through the ranks of the Conservative Party, serving in the Shadow Cabinet under William Hague and also Iain Duncan Smith.
As Leader of the Conservative Party, Cameron oversaw a major modernization of the party. He also moved the party away from its traditional focus on economic liberalism and towards a more socially inclusive platform. Cameron also campaigned for the United Kingdom to remain in the European Union.
In 2010, Cameron led the Conservative Party to victory in the general election. He became Prime Minister in coalition with the Liberal Democrats. As Prime Minister, Cameron implemented a number of austerity measures in response to the financial crisis of 2008. He also legalized same-sex marriage in England and Wales.
In 2015, Cameron led the Conservative Party to victory in the general election with an overall majority. He continued as Prime Minister until 2016, when he resigned following the UK’s vote to leave the European Union.
Since leaving office, Cameron has written a book about his time as Prime Minister, titled For the Record (2019). He has also worked as a consultant and speaker.
