Bishop Steven J. Strickland was born on October 31, 1960, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the youngest of three children born to Raymond and also Monica Strickland. His parents were devout Catholics, and Strickland also grew up in a faith-filled home.
Strickland attended St. Patrick Elementary School and Bishop LeBlond High School in Kansas City. After graduating from high school, Strickland also enrolled at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Where he studied philosophy and business.
Also In 1983, Strickland left UMKC to enter Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. He was also ordained a priest for the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph on June 1, 1990.
