Gyakie, the popular Afrobeat singer and songwriter from Ghana, Jackline Acheampong, has revealed something fascinating about her professional background.
She revealed that, rather than wanting to be a musician, her first career goal was to become an entrepreneur.
The “Forever” hitmaker recalled how her career started on The Day Show with Berla Mundi, where she met her producer, Sosa, through a friend on the KNUST campus.
“So before I got into the university because that’s where everything started for me. Before I went to KNUST I just wanted to be an entrepreneur, I wanted to be getting money so I studied International Business in KNUST until I met my producer, Sosa on campus through a friend,” Gyakie revealed.
Gyakie continues, saying that soon after they first met, Sosa sent her a beat that eventually became her debut song on streaming services. As soon as she started to listen to the beat, she realized she could write songs.
Relatedly, Gyakie revealed how difficult it was for her to balance her studies at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with her music career.
Gyakie disclosed that the pressure got worsen when she reached level 300 at KNUST and at the same time she had just released her first EP tilted “SEED” which featured her father, the legendary highlife singer.
She revealed at level 300 on KNUST campus, things were at their peak, then her hitsong “Forever” was making airwaves on social media and other music platforms. She disclosed how confusing it was for her choose between her academics or music career.
“It was difficult for me, most of the times I would to choose going to class or going to the studio. Also most of my shows were hosted in Accra and at that time too I had to take a bus because I didn’t have money to take flight,” she said.
Since then, the rapidly rising artist has put out a number of hits, such as “Something” and his most recent single, “Rent Free,” which is already trending on social media.
