Sam Nartey George, the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, has come under fire from Richard Ahiagbah, the National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for his attack on Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia that was tinged with religion.
According to public records, Sam George called Dr. Bawumia a religious prostitute, claiming that her public appearances in mosques and churches were done solely for political purposes.
On November 7, 2023, he made the aforementioned remarks on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana program.
Sam George‘s remark prompted Ahiagbah to respond, saying it is not Sam George’s place to judge someone’s religious affiliation.
He maintained that even if someone identifies as a follower of one of the two faiths, there is no religious doctrine that prevents them from going to or participating in worship at both Christian and Muslim locations.
He said that the slurs had to stop and that they were categorically condemned.
Speaking on Asempa FM in Accra, Ahiagbah claimed that some NDC members had also chosen to partake in the taunting.
Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, a member of the Legal and Communications team, and the NDC’s Deputy Communications Officer were mentioned by him for jumping on the bandwagon.
“I get angry when I talk about this matter but it seems it is a new song the NDC is now singing. We must make it clear to them that it can spell doom because being tolerant doesn’t mean you don’t appreciate your values.
“It is to promote peaceful co-existence and that is why Ghana is the envy of some countries. If we don’t stop, it won’t end well for us. We can play with certain things but there are limit,” he noted.
