Bio: John Lewis’ Personal Life
Samuel Lewis was John Lewis’s older brother. He was a farmer and a civil rights activist. Samuel was one of the first people to join the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), and he also participated in many of the same protests and demonstrations as John. Samuel was also a leader in the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
Willie James Lewis was John Lewis’s younger brother.

John Lewis was married to Lillian Miles Lewis from 1963 to 2012. Lillian was also a civil rights activist and the executive director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) from 1977 to 1986. She also died in 2012 after a long battle with cancer.
