A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Communications Team, Lawrence Kwesi Botchway Jnr says that the newly elected NPP flagbearer and Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has the sole prerogative to appoint whoever he deems fit to be his running mate.
After a hotly contested primary, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was named the NPP’s chosen presidential candidate for the general elections of 2024.
Just 48 hours after Dr. Bawumia, the Vice President, was elected to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 election as its flagbearer, names of contenders have surfaced to join him in breaking the eight.
Some have even suggested that Dr. Bawumia choose his running mate from the Ashanti Region so that he can canvas more votes in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking in an interview on UTV, Kwesi Botchway Jnr said even though he would wish the Vice President chooses his running mate from the Ashanti Region, whoever Bawumia chooses is fine by him.
“Ashanti Region is the bank of the NPP party, if we choose a running mate from there ot will help the us a lot, but shouldn’t entangled ourselves that the person must come from Ashanti Region so that if Dr. Bawumia did not choose from Ashanti Region there wouldn’t any issue within the party,” he said.
Kwesi Botchway Jnr urged NPP members to allow Dr, Bawumia make his own choise because he believes the Vice President would choose the right person he can work with.
