National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer and former president, John Mahama has announced plans to review the Free SHS Policy within first 100 days in office if voted as President.
Mr. John Dramani Mahama who is seeking for a second return to the highest seat in government has always supported Free SHS but believes he can make it better if given the nod.
During a recent discussion with the Trades Union Congress (TUC) of Ghana, the former president revealed that within the first 100 days in office as the president, he’ll organize a stakeholder summit that bring together, educationalists, parents, experts, teachers, students and opinion leaders to deliberate on how to improve the implementation of the Free SHS system.
“Within the first 100 days of coming into office, we’ll convey a stakeholder summit that brings together educationalists, experts, teachers, parents, students and opinion leaders to deliberate on how to improve the implementation of the Free SHS system and also improve the quality of our basic education system,” he said.
According to Mr. Mahama, the NDC government will return Ghana to the regional exams conducted by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) so that they can compare the performance of Ghanaian students to the English speaking neighbors in the sub-region.
The NDC flagbearer said that the only to access the performance of Ghanaian students is to get a benchmark to compare.

Meanwhile, in the same meeting, John Mahama presented a policy paper on the NDC’s behalf.
According to him, each and every Ghanaian has a debt of GH¢19,000 if the GH¢577 billion national debt is divided equally.
He says the high levels of debt in the local economy make it difficult to invest in projects aimed at social and economic development.
He emphasized that greater economic growth, better working conditions, and the general well-being of Ghanaians all depend on his party and the TUC working together.
