Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress Samuel Koku Anyidoho has questioned the party’s leadership’s silence regarding Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s election as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer.
He declared that the NDC‘s failure to congratulate the Vice President following his victory over the weekend is extremely odd.
Anyidoho tweeted his disappointment in a series of tweets, citing a long-standing custom of congratulating political opponents as a sign of unity and democratic values.
He questioned why the NDC took so long to respond to the NPP’s presidential primary, which resulted in Dr. Bawumia being chosen as the party’s candidate for the 2024 presidential election.
He specifically criticized Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the national chairman of the NDC, for what he saw as his inability to guide the party toward upholding democratic norms.
“Big shame! Almost 72 hours after the declaration of the NPP Presidential Primaries results, Asiedu-Nketiah can’t get his executives to issue a simple congratulatory statement. What is so difficult about this? Have we dropped our standards so low that we can’t do the needful? Sad!”
He continued, “I say, Asiedu-Nketiah is leading the NDC into a pit of darkened despair; here is a typical example. How come the NDC has failed to officially congratulate the NPP on the successful election of its Flagbearer? Is it not a practice to give Solidarity Messages? I weep for my NDC.”
With 61.43% of the vote, Dr. Bawumia emerged victorious, while Kennedy Agyapong, his nearest opponent, garnered 37.41% of the total vote. Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai Nimo, the other two competitors, received 0.75% and 0.41% of the vote.
Meanwhile, NDC flagbearer and former president, John Mahama has announced plans to review the Free SHS Policy within first 100 days in office if voted as President.
Mr. John Dramani Mahama who is seeking for a second return to the highest seat in government has always supported Free SHS but believes he can make it better if given the nod.
