He also began playing basketball at a young age and quickly developed into one of the top players in his class. Edwards attended Holy Spirit Preparatory School in Atlanta, where he was a four-star recruit and one of the top players in the 2019 class.
Edwards averaged 24.5 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game as a senior at Holy Spirit Preparatory.
He alsoultimately chose to play for the Georgia Bulldogs. Edwards had a strong freshman season at Georgia, averaging 19.1 points per game, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game.
After his freshman season, Edwards also declared for the 2020 NBA draft. Edwards made an immediate impact in his rookie season, averaging 19.3 points per game, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. He was also named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team and helped the Timberwolves reach the playoffs for the first time in four years.
