The newly elected flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has promised his unwavering dedication to serve and give back to the nation with every breath in his body.
Dr. Bawumia made this statement during his acceptance speech after winning the NPP presidential primaries on Saturday, November 4, 2023.
“Ghana has given me everything, every opportunity and grace. I have dedicated my life to give back, and to serve this wonderful country to the best of my ability, with every breath in my body.”
According to him, he has his own vision and priorities for Ghana and if he is given the opportunity to lead the nation, he shall govern with guidance from God Almighty.
He claimed that, his vision is to “build an inclusive, food self-sufficient, data-driven and systems based nation that will fully participate in the global digital revolution to solve our problems and also usher in a golden age of benefits from our natural resources.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Bawumia stated he’s convinced that the NPP is the best option for the for the progress and prosperity of the Ghanaians.
Dr. Bawumia expressed gratitude for all of the unwavering support he had received since being chosen as the 2008 presidential running mate.
After a hotly contested primary, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was named the NPP’s chosen presidential candidate for the general elections of 2024. With 118,210 votes, he garnered 61.47% of the total, while Kennedy Agyapong received 71,996 votes, or 37.41% of the total. Francis Addai-Nimoh received 731 votes (0.41%), and Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto received 1,459 votes (0.76%) to finish in third place.
As the presidential candidates for their respective parties, Dr. Bawumia and John Dramani Mahama, 2024’s general elections are predicted to be extremely competitive. With one candidate hoping to reclaim power and the other to advance to a higher political position, it is regarded as a turning point in Ghana’s political history.
