Barbra Streisand is one of the most successful entertainers of all time. She has sold over 150 million records worldwide and has won numerous awards, including eight Grammy Awards, two Academy Awards, and a Tony Award. Streisand is also a successful actress, director, and producer.
Streisand is a very private person and does not share much about her personal life with the public.
Her father, Emanuel Streisand, was a high school teacher, and her mother, Diana Idleson, was also a secretary. Streisand’s family was Jewish, and her paternal grandparents emigrated from Galicia (modern-day Poland and Ukraine) in the Austro-Hungarian Empire and her maternal grandparents from the Russian Empire.
Streisand’s father died when she was just 15 months old, and her also mother struggled to raise her and her younger brother, Sheldon, on her own. Streisand had a difficult childhood, and she was also often bullied for her looks and her Jewish heritage.
Streisand found solace in music and theater. She began singing at a young age, and she appeared in her first school play at the age of 12.
